A Malaysia Day message 2020

On Malaysia Day we celebrate all who are working in some capacity to preserve the natural heritage of our country because conservationists are patriots.   We know what it means to love this nation so intensely that we will endure untold hardships and time away from loved ones to complete our mission because our work is the tangible expression of our commitment to our country.   We will go to the mountain tops, to the depths of the seas, into the darkest caves, and distant forest interiors, and we will call ourselves lucky to have known … [Read more...] about A Malaysia Day message 2020

Upskill to support native flora and fauna in our cities

Urban Biodiversity Initiative (UBI) is on a mission to raise awareness of how private and public green spaces are important refuges for native wildlife, including many species that make invaluable contributions to ecosystems and even food production. Through their online workshops, they are making an impact by enlisting the public's participation in a movement to 'rewild' our urban landscape and transform the urban landscape to one that continues to support native species. In July, UBI ran online workshops on urban farming, butterfly … [Read more...] about Upskill to support native flora and fauna in our cities

Mangroves ecosystems are vital for our wellbeing

Every year, on the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem we recognise the world's mangroves which play many essential roles. These distinctive wetlands harbour rich biodiversity, nurture fisheries resources, and help safeguard local livelihoods. Mangroves sequester carbon and have a critical role to play as nature-based solutions to climate change. In addition to promoting awareness of the need to protect all remaining mangrove forest in Malaysia, The Habitat Foundation is contributing to community-based … [Read more...] about Mangroves ecosystems are vital for our wellbeing
