Feeling worried about the planet? Then plant something! The Habitat Foundation together with the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme, are proud to support PJ-based Urban Biodiversity Initiative as they implement a project promoting the rewilding of urban areas through environmental education and citizen science. Nested under this project is the Biodiversity Gardens Capacity Building Online Workshop Series organized with the Kota Damansara Community Forest Society. This online workshop series is designed to develop knowledge and skills among urban communities that want to conserve, improve and manage green spaces in the city. Throughout the month of July, UBI will be running online workshops on urban farming, butterfly gardens, biodiversity gardening, and bee gardens.
Low Shao-Lyn has been in the design industry for over 14 years. A few years after completing her MA in Graphic Design at the University of the Creative Arts, UK, she discovered Embun Pagi. This permaculture site inspired her to co-found Eats, Shoots & Roots, with the aim of empowering people with the skills and tools to grow their own food.
Dr Cyren Wong is an ecologist with a background in anthropology, entomology and ethnozoology. He is also the head of the Malaysia Immersion Hub at Monash University Malaysia where he gives lectures on the topics of biodiversity, human ecology and indigenous people studies. As the founder of the social-media education platform Naturetalksback, he is an advocate of science, and biodiversity communication and education.
Tan Kai Ren is an ecologist who has been involved in urban biodiversity conservation for the past three years with The Rimba Project in University of Malaya. He is currently working as a Green G.O., an environmental and sustainability officer position in Club Med Cherating. His work mainly focuses on environmental education for urban communities, to create more awareness of how balanced ecosystems support our own well-being.
Dr Noraini Bahari is a registered Landscape Architect and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Perak. She holds a PhD in Environmental Design specializing in Landscape and Ecosystem Services, and her research interest is on the conservation of urban wildlife as an integral part of sustainable urban ecosystems.
