Siti Azizah Mohd Nor

Prof Dr Siti Azizah Mohd Nor is a professor in population genetics at the School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her area of interest is in molecular studies with emphasis on aquaculture, population and conservation genetics. She has a keen interest in the phylogeography and phylogenetics of aquatic organisms. These investigations have revealed how ancient river connectivity, geographical and anthropogenic signatures have shaped the genetic pattern of fishes in the Sundaland and the Mekong river delta.

Her other interests are the DNA barcoding approach for molecular taxonomy and in seafood forensics for consumer protection against seafood frauds. Siti is a board member of the Asian Society of Ichthyologists and Treasurer of ASEAN-Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN). In addition, she is a technical committee member of the initiatives to nominate Merbok Mangrove Permanent Forest Reserve, Kedah and Penang Hill, Penang and their surrounding areas as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. She was also involved in the newly listed Gunung Jerai National Geopark committee.
