Dr Brian Fisher is an expert on tropical ants. He is Curator of Entomology at the California Academy of Sciences and adjunct professor at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University. Fisher created the annual Ant Course in 2001 (16 courses in 9 countries, 457 students from 53 countries), AntWeb.org in 2002 (world’s largest online database of images, specimen records, and natural history information on ants), and the Madagascar Biodiversity Center in 2004 (Museum in Antananarivo dedicated to biodiversity, conservation and education). He has published over 140 peer reviewed articles on biodiversity/systematics in Africa and Madagascar including high impact journals such as Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). He has trained dozens of international graduate students in the taxonomy and natural history of ants.
