THE LAUNCH: CANOPY SCIENCE & FOREST CONSERVATION IN PENANG

Rainforests are typically made up of several vertical layers, including the overstory, the canopy, the understory, the shrub layer and the forest floor. In the rainforest, most plant and animal life is not found on the forest floor, but in the leafy world known as the canopy. The canopy, typically over 100 feet above ground is made up of the overlapping branches and leaves of rainforest trees. This symposium will initiate the extensive research on the canopies of penang hill required to obtain its unesco biosphere reserve status. It also hopes to bring public awareness and understanding about the diverse and delicate ecosystem at Penang Hill.
